2 Credits
The course is designed to provide a general introduction of linguistics to future elementary and ELD teachers. The course has a pedagogical focus and emphasizes linguistic elements that are most important for the development of literacy and language skills. In this class, we see linguistics as a scientific study of languages. Students will learn about linguistic terminology, acquire a deeper understanding of the English language, and learn to apply methods of linguistic analysis (both to English and to other languages) to education materials, teaching practice, and policy.
